Residence permit appointment in Türkiye: what to bring and what happens

After you submit the e-ikamet form, many provinces, İstanbul included, give you an appointment (randevu) at the provincial Directorate of Migration Management. The visit is short, but a missing page or an unsigned form can send you back to the queue. This guide covers what to carry, what the officer usually checks, and what you receive when you leave.

Before the day: check the slip and the file

Open your e-ikamet record and read the appointment slip: office, date, time and the permit type. If the slip says the file is to be posted instead of handed in, follow that instruction; the rule differs by province, and YIMER (157) or the office page can confirm yours. Print the application form, sign every page and check that the passport number and address match your documents exactly.

What to carry

  • Passport and a photocopy of its identity and entry pages.
  • The signed e-ikamet application form and the fee receipts, in your own name.
  • Four recent biometric photographs, if your office still asks for printed ones.
  • Current permit card (for a renewal) and the health insurance policy covering the whole requested period.
  • Proof of address and proof of means for your permit type.
  • Originals of everything you uploaded, plus one printed set of copies. Foreign documents in another language usually need a sworn translation.

At the counter

The officer compares the printed file with what you uploaded, checks the passport and may take fingerprints or a photo. Answer only what is asked and hand over documents in the order of the form. If the officer finds something missing, ask exactly what is needed and by when, and write it down. You do not need to explain your whole case; the decision is made later on the file.

What we do not do. ROSTU is not a notary or a law firm, and we do not apply for residence permits on anyone's behalf or represent you before the Directorate. The application is yours. We prepare the checklist and translations, arrange any notarial step with you, and go with you to the appointment as interpreter. The Directorate decides.

What you receive and the rules while you wait

Ask for the application document (müracaat belgesi) and keep it with the fee receipt. With them you may leave and re-enter Türkiye for up to 15 days while the decision is pending. The legal processing period is up to 90 days. The card is posted by PTT to your registered address, so correct the address first if it has changed; the address change guide explains the 20-business-day rule.

If something goes wrong

A missing document is normally given a deadline, not an automatic refusal. If the application is refused, the dates in the decision start the clock; see our guide on refusals. If you do not understand the officer, ask for the request in writing instead of guessing.

Questions

Can someone attend the appointment for me?

The application is personal, so you normally attend yourself. A lawyer with a power of attorney can act in some cases; check the slip and the office rules first.

What if I miss the appointment?

Check e-ikamet and YIMER (157) for a new slot as soon as possible. Do not wait for the permit to expire, because the renewal window closes on the expiry date.

Do I need an interpreter?

Not required, but officers work in Turkish. If your Turkish is limited, bring someone who can interpret and who understands the documents.
