Residence permit renewal in İstanbul: documents, 2026 fees and a prepared appointment

You renew your own permit: you submit through e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr and attend the appointment at the provincial migration directorate in person. We prepare the file, check every document against the current rules for your permit type and nationality, coach you through the form field by field, and go with you. We do not file on your behalf.

Documents for a short-term permit renewal (base list)

The exact list depends on permit type, nationality, age and district. This is the core set the İstanbul directorate expects; your personal checklist shows the source for each item and marks which need translation.

Always

  • e-ikamet application form, signed, printed from the system by you
  • Passport (original + photocopy of the ID page, the page with the last entry stamp, and the current permit) — valid at least 60 days beyond the permit you request
  • Four biometric photographs, 5×6 cm, white background, taken within the last six months
  • Current residence permit card
  • Receipts: card fee ₺964 and harç (where applicable), in your name
  • Valid private health insurance covering the whole requested period (or SGK proof), issued in the format the circular requires
  • Proof of address: notarised lease or title deed, plus the nüfus-registered address document (Yerleşim Yeri Belgesi) from e-Devlet; for family permits, the sponsor's documents
  • Proof of sufficient means for the period (bank statement, pension letter, sponsor's income) — the directorate applies its own threshold

Often, depending on your case

  • Tax number (vergi numarası) printout
  • For family permits: apostilled and notarised-translated marriage and birth certificates; sponsor's permit, insurance and income; criminal-record extract where asked
  • For student permits: enrolment letter (öğrenci belgesi) issued within the last month
  • For property-based permits: tapu and, since 2023, the valuation report where required
  • For renters: e-Devlet "kira kontratı" check, landlord's ID copy, sometimes the building's numarataj document
  • If you changed address: the new address must already be registered at the nüfus müdürlüğü before you submit

Special-category documents (criminal record, medical) are handled with your separate explicit consent and deleted after the order.

The process, day by day

1

Day 0 — eligibility interview

15 minutes on WhatsApp or in person: permit type, expiry, nationality, address district, household. We tell you if something blocks a renewal (closed mahalle, passport validity, missing address registration) before you pay.

2

Days 1–10 — collect and check

Personal checklist with sources. You upload each item; we check insurance wording, photo specification, address match, name spellings. Translations ordered through our document chain if needed.

3

Days 10–14 — e-ikamet together

Step cards for every field in your language; screen-share or side-by-side. You enter the data, choose the appointment slot, print and sign the form. You pay the card fee and harç with the payment reference the system gives you.

4

Appointment day and after

Pack in the officer's order, what to say, what not to sign. We accompany where permitted. Afterwards: what each status means, when 90 days of silence is normal, when to call 157. Renewal reminder set.

What goes wrong most often

  • Insurance that does not match the circular. Wrong wording, period shorter than the permit requested, or a policy from an insurer the directorate does not accept. We read the policy before you rely on it.
  • Address not registered. You moved and the nüfus record still shows the old flat. The directorate checks e-Devlet; fix it before submitting.
  • Closed neighbourhood. Some mahalles are closed to new registrations for certain permit types. We check the current list and tell you what it means for you.
  • Passport validity. Requesting two years on a passport with 14 months left yields a short permit or a rejection of the period.
  • Photos older than six months or from an unofficial studio. Rejected at the counter; appointment wasted.
  • Missing the window. Submit before expiry. Late applications are a different, harder procedure.

What you bring on the day

  • Signed application form
  • Passport and current permit card
  • Photos, receipts, insurance policy, address documents, income proof — in the order of the checklist
  • Originals of anything translated, with the notarised translation clipped behind
  • Your phone with the e-ikamet SMS

Timeline after submission: the directorate's processing time varies by season and district, commonly 30–90 days. The card is posted by PTT to your registered address; keep someone at home or arrange collection at the PTT branch.

Questions

When should I start the renewal?

The e-ikamet system accepts renewal applications from 60 days before expiry. Start the checklist 70–80 days before, because translations, insurance and a nüfus-registered address can each take a week or more.

Do you log in to e-ikamet for me?

No. You create the application and enter your own data. We sit beside you (in person or on a screen-share) with step cards for every field in your language. You press submit.

What if my passport expires soon?

A permit is granted for at most 60 days less than the passport's remaining validity. If your passport expires within a year, you will usually get a shorter permit or need to renew the passport first. We check this at the eligibility interview before you pay.

Is the family price per family or per person?

₺5,500 covers up to four family members renewing together — the applicant, spouse and children. Each person still pays their own card fee of ₺964 and harç where applicable to the state.
