Bank letters and statements that a consulate, a university or Göç İdaresi will actually accept
A Schengen consulate, a foreign university, a landlord abroad or the Directorate of Migration Management each wants proof of funds in a specific form: a stamped statement for a set period, a balance letter on the bank's letterhead, sometimes in English, sometimes with notarial certification and apostille so it is valid abroad. Turkish banks issue most of these at the branch, some only through specific channels, some only in Turkish. We tell you exactly what to ask the bank for, obtain or translate what the bank will not issue in English, and run the notary and apostille chain where the receiving authority requires it.
Price — one letter or statement set
State fees and the notarial tariff are paid by you directly to the state or to the notary. We are not a notary and receive no remuneration from any notary, bank or lawyer.

Which authority wants which letter
| Receiving authority | Usually accepted | Chain |
|---|---|---|
| Schengen / UK / US consulates (visa) | Stamped statements for the last 3–6 months, often with a balance letter; English preferred | Bank stamp; no apostille; translation if the bank issues Turkish only |
| Göç İdaresi (ikamet proof of means) | Turkish statement showing regular income or a balance covering the permit period at the published monthly threshold | Bank stamp; Turkish; no translation needed |
| Foreign university (enrolment / scholarship) | Balance letter on letterhead stating the amount in a named currency, student or sponsor as holder | Often apostille requested: bank letter → notary certification → kaymakamlık apostille |
| Foreign bank (opening abroad) or landlord | Bank reference letter: relationship since, account conduct, no adverse record | English from the bank if available; otherwise sworn translation |
| Foreign tax authority or court | Full statement for a tax year, certified | Notary + apostille almost always |
Apostille can only be placed on a document bearing an official signature; a private bank letter is first certified by a notary (signature or copy certification), then apostilled. We confirm the receiving authority's rule before ordering anything.
How it works
Tell us who will read the letter
Consulate, university, foreign bank, Göç İdaresi, court — and send their requirement text or link if you have it. We check it against the authority's published list.
Exact request to your bank
You receive, in Turkish and your language, the precise wording to request at the branch or through the app: period, currency, balance line, English or Turkish, stamp and signature. We accompany you with an interpreter if you prefer.
Translation, notary, apostille as needed
If the bank issues Turkish only, our sworn translator translates; a notary certifies where required; we take the document to the apostille desk and back.
Final check and delivery
We check the finished set against the authority's list line by line — names, dates, currency, stamps — and hand it over, in İstanbul by courier if you wish.
Typical cases
- Schengen visa for a residence-permit holder: three months of statements plus a balance letter; the bank issues Turkish; translation to English for the consulate.
- Ikamet renewal: Göç İdaresi asks for proof of means; the bank's Turkish statement must show the balance or income over the period.
- Child's enrolment at a university in the Netherlands: sponsor's balance letter in euro, apostilled.
- Opening an account abroad after relocating: reference letter about account conduct in English.
- Foreign tax residency audit: certified annual statements, notarised and apostilled.
What can go wrong
- Letter in the wrong currency or without a balance line. Universities reject letters that do not state the figure in the requested currency. We fix the wording before the bank prints it.
- Apostille requested on a private document. Not possible directly; the notary step comes first. Plan two extra days.
- Statement period too short. Consulates specify the months; a shorter print is a refusal reason.
- Stamp without signature or vice versa. Some banks print letters with a QR verification code only; some authorities still want a wet stamp. We ask the branch for both.
- Letter older than the authority's validity window (often 30 days). Order it last, after everything else is ready.
Questions
Can you get the letter from the bank without me?
No. Banks issue statements and letters to the account holder, in person or through the holder's own app. We tell you exactly what to request and come with you if you wish.
Does Göç İdaresi accept a foreign bank's statement for ikamet?
The Directorate's income requirement is published on goc.gov.tr and the provincial office decides what it accepts. In practice a Turkish bank statement is the safest form; a foreign statement will need sworn translation and may be queried. We prepare whichever you have correctly.
Does an apostille make the letter valid everywhere?
Among Hague Apostille Convention states, yes, as to the signature and seal. Countries outside the Convention require consular legalisation instead; we tell you which applies.
How long does the chain take?
Bank letter same day to two days; sworn translation one day; notary same day; apostille same day to two days in İstanbul. A full chain is typically four to five business days.
