Your account is blocked, restricted or closed. First understand which kind of block it is.

A Turkish bank account stops working for one of a few distinct reasons, and the response to each is different: a compliance hold pending documents (MASAK due diligence), a bank-initiated closure under the account contract, a court or enforcement-office attachment (haciz, often e-haciz by a tax office or SGK), or a precautionary measure ordered by a prosecutor or MASAK. The letter or the app message usually tells you which — in Turkish, in bank language. We read it with you, prepare the documents for your written response in the bank's structure, and lay out the escalation route in writing: branch, head-office customer unit, the Banks Association's customer arbitration committee (TBB Müşteri Hakem Heyeti), BDDK complaint, or a lawyer where the block is judicial.

We classify and prepare documents for the first two kinds, and prepare the factual chronology for your lawyer in the last two. We do not argue your case before any body.

How it works

1

Send the letter or a screenshot

The bank's message, the date you first noticed the restriction, and what you were trying to do when it failed. We classify the block within hours and tell you what kind it is.

2

Chronology and document pack

We build a dated chronology of the account — openings, large credits, cash, foreign transfers — from your statements, and list the documents that answer the bank's categories. You collect; we order and translate what needs translating.

3

Written response and branch visit

You receive a response in Turkish, in the bank's structure, with the documents indexed, and a copy in your language. You sign. We go to the branch with you and a sworn interpreter to hand it in and have it logged.

4

Escalation map and follow-up

If the bank does not answer or answers no, you have a dated map: written application to head office; TBB Müşteri Hakem Heyeti (for individual customers, within the periods in its rules); BDDK complaint; lawyer for judicial measures. We follow up with you for 30 days.

Typical cases

  • Foreign individual, account restricted after a €60,000 incoming transfer. The bank wants source documents; nothing moves until they are filed.
  • Company account closed with 30 days' notice after a change of shareholders; the bank will not say why. The task is to receive the balance and open elsewhere, not to argue.
  • e-haciz from the tax office on a company account for an unpaid KDV assessment the SMMM did not flag; the balance is attached until the debt is settled or stayed.
  • Card and app blocked after a fraud alert on an outgoing transfer; the bank wants an in-person identity confirmation with interpreter.
  • Student's account frozen after receiving money from several unrelated senders; the bank suspects third-party use.

What can go wrong

  • Treating a judicial measure like a compliance hold. Documents to the branch will not lift a prosecutor's order. Classify first.
  • Arguing by phone. Nothing said on the phone is in the file. Written, dated, signed, logged.
  • Going to the TBB Heyet too early or too late. Its rules require a prior written application to the bank and set a period after the bank's reply or silence. We give you the dates.
  • Opening a new account elsewhere with the same unanswered questions. The next bank asks the same things. Fix the document pack once.
  • A block that reflects a real problem. If the chronology shows transactions you cannot document lawfully, we say so and stop; the next step is a lawyer you retain directly.

Questions

Can the bank just close my account?

Under the account contract a bank may end the relationship with notice, and it is not obliged to give reasons. It must, however, pay you the balance. If funds are withheld after closure, an individual customer may apply to the TBB Müşteri Hakem Heyeti after a written application to the bank; a company's route is a lawyer.

What is the TBB Müşteri Hakem Heyeti?

The Banks Association of Türkiye's customer arbitration committee for disputes between individual customers and banks, free of charge, with its procedure and monetary limits published on tbb.org.tr. The customer applies in their own name after first applying to the bank in writing. We prepare the document pack and the factual chronology; we do not represent you.

Will you speak to the bank's compliance officer for me?

We interpret for you at the branch and prepare everything in writing for your signature. Compliance officers speak to the customer, not to third parties, and that is correct.

How long does a compliance hold last?

Until the bank is satisfied, which depends on how complete the first response is. A full pack is usually resolved in days to a few weeks; partial responses extend it. We cannot shorten the bank's own review.
