Residence permit renewal in Türkiye in 2026: what it costs and which documents you need
Renewing a Turkish residence permit (ikamet izni) means two payments to the state, a few documents that cost money and several that are free. This article sets out the official 2026 amounts with their sources, explains who pays less or nothing, shows how and when to pay, and lists the documents a renewal file normally contains. The procedure itself is covered in our step-by-step renewal guide.
What you pay the state in 2026
Two separate state charges apply to every renewal. The residence permit card is a valuable paper under Law No. 210, and its 2026 price is ₺964.00, set by a Treasury communiqué published in the Official Gazette on 24 December 2025. Nobody is exempt from the card fee, whatever the nationality or permit type.
The second charge is the residence harç under Law No. 492, tariff (6). Its amounts are set each year by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance on a reciprocity basis, so what you pay depends on your nationality and the duration requested. For 2026 the fixed amounts were raised by 18.95 per cent by Presidential Decision No. 10783.
| Cost item | Who sets it | 2026 amount |
|---|---|---|
| Residence permit card (belge bedeli) | Treasury, Law No. 210 | ₺964.00 |
| Residence harç, nationalities outside the country groups | Treasury, Law No. 492, tariff (6) | ₺348.10 per day for the first month (min. ₺653.70, max. ₺3,359.90), then ₺2,232.30 per month |
| Residence harç, nationalities in a country group | Treasury, reciprocity | See the current goc.gov.tr table for your country |
| Single-entry visa fee, only where the Directorate requires it | Law No. 492, tariff (6), part II | ₺9,376.40 |
| Private health insurance | Insurer, within the minimum coverage set by the authorities | Market price, by age and duration |
| Tax number, address record, PTT delivery of the card | GİB, Nüfus, Directorate | No fee shown in the official tables |
Who pays less, who pays nothing
The Directorate publishes a list of nationalities exempt from the harç by reciprocity: in 2026 these are the Czech Republic, Denmark, Ireland, Kosovo, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkmenistan, the TRNC and Palestine. Their nationals still pay the ₺964 card fee. The general per-day tariff applies only to countries outside every group, such as Serbia, Fiji and Norway; all others have a group amount.
Article 88 of Law No. 492 also exempts certain persons regardless of nationality: students enrolled at Turkish schools and faculties, and holders of a long-term residence permit, among others. A student permit renewal therefore normally carries only the card fee, while a short-term or family permit renewal carries both charges.
- Check your country on the goc.gov.tr harç table before you pay; e-ikamet calculates the same figure.
- Exemption from the harç never removes the card fee.
- The tariff note states that harç for a period spent without a valid permit is collected at twice the amount, so a late renewal costs more.
How and when to pay
After you complete the e-ikamet form, the system issues an assessment (tahakkuk) with an application number. With that number you pay the harç and the card fee without logging in through the quick payment service of the Revenue Administration at dijital.gib.gov.tr, at any tax office (vergi dairesi), or through banks authorised to collect state revenue. Payment is made before the appointment, and the receipts go into the file.
Never pay into a private or company bank account: the Directorate states that no payment other than the harç and card fee is required for an application. Keep both receipts in your own name. If the application is refused, ask the tax office that collected the harç how a refund request is filed; neither refund is automatic, so keep the refusal decision and the receipts together.
- Finish the e-ikamet form and note the application and tahakkuk numbers.
- Pay the harç and the card fee, online or at the tax office.
- Print both receipts and attach them to the printed form.
- Check that the amount matches the goc.gov.tr table for your nationality.
Other costs in a renewal file
Health insurance is the largest non-state cost. You need either a private policy that meets the minimum coverage set in the official circular and runs for the whole requested period, or proof of SGK general health insurance. The premium is a market price that depends on age and duration; see our insurance guide for the conditions.
Several items cost nothing: the tax number from the Revenue Administration, the residence record (yerleşim yeri belgesi) from e-Devlet, and delivery of the card by PTT to your registered address, for which no fee appears in the official tables. Costs arise only where a foreign document must be apostilled and translated, or where a landlord or host must sign a notarised document.
- Biometric photographs: four, taken within the last six months.
- Notarised lease or host undertaking, where the province asks for one: notary tariff.
- Sworn translation and notarial certification of foreign civil documents: notary tariff.
- Proof of means: bank statement or pension letter, usually free from the bank or e-Devlet.
Documents and timing
Under Article 24 of Law No. 6458, a renewal application is made from 60 days before the current permit expires and in any case before the expiry date. The Law gives the administration up to 90 days to decide, and you remain lawfully in Türkiye while the decision is pending. Start collecting documents as soon as the 60-day window opens.
The Directorate announced on 30 April 2026 that there had been no change in the harç amounts and pointed to the official table; always read the table on the day you pay. A typical renewal file for a short-term or family permit contains the items below; the student file omits the harç receipt.
- Signed e-ikamet application form and the current permit card.
- Passport and copies of the identity and entry pages.
- Four biometric photographs.
- Health insurance for the whole requested period.
- Address record from e-Devlet and, if requested, the notarised lease or host undertaking.
- Proof of means and the permit-specific documents (student certificate, marriage record, title deed).

The card fee is ₺964.00 for everyone. The residence harç depends on nationality and duration: exempt nationalities pay nothing, countries in a group pay the amount on the goc.gov.tr table, and nationalities outside every group pay ₺348.10 per day for the first month and ₺2,232.30 for each further month.
Do students pay the residence harç?
Article 88 of Law No. 492 exempts students enrolled at Turkish schools and faculties from the harç. The ₺964 card fee is still due.
Where do I pay the harç and the card fee?
With the application or tahakkuk number from e-ikamet: online at dijital.gib.gov.tr through the quick payment service, at any tax office, or through authorised banks. Keep both receipts in your own name.
Is the fee refunded if the renewal is refused?
No refund is automatic. Ask the tax office that collected the harç how a refund request is made and keep the refusal decision together with the receipts.
When can I apply for renewal?
From 60 days before the current permit expires and before the expiry date, under Article 24 of Law No. 6458. A late application is treated as a first application, and harç for the gap may be collected at twice the amount.
